Jenny Lewis' Cleavage.

I just opened the stat counter thingy I have installed for this blog for the first time in like a year. Much to my surprise - not only is the name "Jenny Lewis" in two thirds of the keyword searches - the keyword that brought most people here is "Jenny Lewis boobs". Wow, cool to know that google considers me to be an authority on this subject. If that only were true.
Sigh. She was in Berlin last week, but I missed her show, b/c I got the dates mixed up and was too late to buy a ticket. Seriously, sadface.

btw.

Hi. I made a tumblr. It is kind of pointless so far, but so easy to handle. And it has the same name as this blog, so I thought linkage was in order: http://viereckige-augen.tumblr.com/

Jozik!

Some 70s Czech comedy I'm addicted to:

Catchy isn't it? I believe the guy in the "flannel" jacket bears a weird resemblance to the undertaker in Lucky Luke.

Lars And Edith.

I finally saw La Mome. Well... Did anyone really like this movie? I'm not speaking of Marion Cotilliard's performance, which I agree was good. But the story? It just seemed so shattered and inconsistant. I think they were trying a different take on the biopic genre that didn't quite work for me. Possibly because the few things I did know about Edith Piaf's life beforehand (about her affair with Yves Montand, the daughter she gave up) were completely left out. I don't know- I didn't find this to be an enjoyable watch either. Thoughts?

On the other hand Lars and the Real Girl: A guy in love with a sex doll he ordered online. I know it sounds kind of tacky and it's true that the anatomically correct girlfriend topic has been used in lame crime shows before. But: I'm in love with this movie and its actors! From Ryan Gosling to Partricia Clarkson(Ally Sheedy's junky girlfriend in High Art) everyone does a terrific job.
And the script is overwhelmingly good.

In other news: I'm starting nerd school tomorrow, and I'm pretty excited about it.

One of each.

1) Something gay:
A Jihad for Love - Gay muslims! I saw this film at the Berlinale and thought it was very good and really sad at times.

The director had no permission to shoot his movie in some of the muslim countries he travelled to. He pretended to be a tourist and hid the significant footage in the middle of his tapes: the first and last ten minutes were always touristy shots.
[For the frenchies: this movie was co-financed by arte, so I hope they might show it at some point.]

2) Something cute:

3) Something I'm happy about (besides the above picture):

I'm going to go back to school for six months (starting at the end of march) to learn nerdy computery/web design things.

4) Something I'm looking forward to:
Making a short film with my friends. This is going to take a while though.

Oscar Night .

So for the first time ever, I actually stayed awake to watch the Oscars live and in english. I have to say that the fact that you get to see something in english on german tv is almost the best part about watching the oscars. I used to not be so snobby about this, but after years of watching movies in their original language, I have come to really hate dubbed movies and even dubbed interviews.

The main problems with dubbing are:
a) the translations usually suck. bad.
b) they only have like two dozen actors to do the voices of hundreds.

Especially b) leads to unintentionally funny moments at the movies.

Examples:
-Björk in "Dancer in the Dark" had the same voice as Bart Simpson.
- Gerard D'epardieu and Bruce Willis share the same voice, as do Harvey Keitel and Robert DeNiro.
- I'm not 100% sure, but I think Ellen Page in Juno has Lily Taylors voice
Anyways, the Oscars... There are many people to talk about, but for now, I'll just pick one: Diablo Cody. I don't really get her style (- A leopard patterned dress? wtf? -) yet I completely adore her. She has a tattoo of a naked chick on her arm! I know there is so much buzz surrounding her right now that it's sickening to some people, but I got really excited when she got the Oscar. She didn't look very comfortable and her voice was all teary and it seemed as if she felt like in a nightmare were all of a sudden you're naked on a stage, because she kept pulling down her dress.

In other words: Yay for bisexual ex-strippers selling bad-ass screenplays!!

Oh and I completely forgot to look at her shoes, which I heard cost 1 million dollars and were sponsored by some designer. What a waste. She could've come in jelly sandals and I wouldn't mind. In fact I think that'd be brilliant. God I'd be the worst fashion reporter ever.

As you can probably guess, I was rooting for Juno. I am really behind though and haven't really seen much of the other nominees. This one I caught during the Berlinale. I'm really curious to see Lars and the Real Girl, which is supposed to be phantasically written.
There Will be Blood was at the Berlinale too, but it was impossible to get tickets for that. I'm usually not a very big fan of period films, but I have a feeling this is going to be good.

This post could go on forever:

That stunt they pulled with the soldiers in Baghdad announcing a documentary about a lesbian Lieutenant the winner for best short documentary? Truly awesome.

Ruby Dee's nosebleed? Scary. I hope she's ok.

I think I'm going to make another post.

p.s. Unfortunately I at approx 5 a.m. I fell asleep, so I missed best Film and best Director. Time difference has proven to suck yet again.
